The area we call Bernal Heights was once the site of cow dairies and grazing pastures. It owes its growing desirability to its exceptionally homey setting and inspiring city views.

Home to two great parks, this community is beloved by dog owners and hikers alike. The largest park, called Bernal Heights, occupies the crest of the hill and is a breezy respite for area residents who enjoy fresh air and pristine views of downtown San Francisco and the bay. The second, Precita Park resides at the bottom of Bernal and is a favorite for young children and families, who find the playground and expansive lawns to be a perfect afternoon setting.

Any visitor must make their way along Bernal's cozy retail main street, Cortland Avenue. There you'll find a splendid blend of local bookshops, one-of-a-kind boutiques, and delicious coffee shops. Some exceptional ethnic food, from French to Nepalese, can be found along this notable stretch, representing an array of eateries to delight the lucky food lovers who sauntering by.

MUNI bus service out of Bernal toward downtown is easy to find on Mission street, which delineates the western edge of Bernal. You are also walking distance from the BART at 24th and Mission.
